The CVB Director will lead efforts to promote Mitchell as a premier destination for tourism, conventions, and events while serving as a key marketing representative for both the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mitchell Area Development Corporation (MADC). This role plays a vital part in growing the visibility of Mitchell and supporting community and economic development through marketing, event coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
The Director will report to the Vice President of Relations, Communications, and Engagement and work across multiple teams, including tourism, economic development, and member engagement. This position includes responsibilities in visitor & industry relations, marketing, event coordination, and light clerical support.

Tourism Marketing & Chamber/Development Promotion:
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing campaigns that position Mitchell as a top tourism and convention destination while promoting the interests of both the Chamber and the Development Corporation.
- Manage all tourism-related communications, including Visit Mitchell social media platforms, website, and email newsletters, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
- Create and distribute a weekly tourism newsletter and coordinate promotional content to highlight attractions, events, and Chamber/Development Corporation initiatives.
- Design and produce engaging print and digital marketing materials to promote Mitchell’s tourism offerings and the benefits of Chamber and Development Corporation membership.
- Attend travel and tourism trade shows where Mitchell is showcased as a destination, representing the city and promoting partnerships.
- Lead the promotion of community events such as the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party, to drive visitor traffic and local business engagement.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders to support and promote festivals, conventions, and business events aligned with tourism and economic development goals.
- Work with groups to promote meetings and conventions; assist with planning entertainment, shopping excursions, spouse/children programs, and local tours.
- Coordinate and arrange volunteers for events (e.g., athletic events, conventions), including assembling materials like baggies, badges, and programs.
- Serve as a liaison to the Corn Palace Visitor Center: maintain brochure slots, restock materials, and ensure staff have adequate promotional resources.
- Coordinate with the Corn Palace Gift Shop Director to schedule and support bus tours of the Corn Palace.
- Develop programs and partnerships with hotels, restaurants, and attractions to enhance visitor experiences and support local businesses.
- Produce and manage the annual Mitchell Guide to Everything, coordinating content, layout, advertising, and distribution to maximize visitor outreach.
- Maintain strong working relationships with tourism stakeholders, Chamber members, local businesses, and city officials to foster unified tourism promotion.
- Promote the benefits and work of the Chamber and MADC at regional conferences and events.
- Ensure all tourism efforts align with broader Chamber and Development Corporation strategies through regular collaboration with executive leadership.
- Manage the tourism marketing budget, ensuring strategic and cost-effective use of resources.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on tourism marketing performance, visitor engagement, and strategic recommendations.
- Promote both the Chamber and MADC in all tourism efforts, ensuring members and programs are visible and supported.
- Answer and route phone calls, greet visitors, and maintain orderliness in the Corn Palace Visitors Area.
- Perform general clerical activities including filing, shipping, and postage handling.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, tourism, communications, or related field.
- Experience in marketing, hospitality, or customer service preferred.
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media management, and content creation.
- Strong graphic design and public relations experience a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with office systems and equipment.
- Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed.
